Azerbaijan, Georgia, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan reaffirm interest in expanding cooperation on the Middle Corridor
On 10 February 2026, a four-party meeting was held in Ashgabat between Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC (ADY), a company within AZCON Holding, Mammed Akmammedov, Minister of Railway Transport of Turkmenistan, Zufar Narzullayev, Chairman of the Board of “Uzbekistan Railways” JSC and Lasha Abashidze, Director General of “Georgian Railways” JSC.
During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of mutual interest and reviewed opportunities for expanding cooperation in the railway sector, as well as within the framework of the Middle Corridor, one of the region’s principal transit routes.
The participants exchanged views on enhancing the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor and increasing freight volumes along this route. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of digitalisation of operations to ensure more efficient and expedited cargo transportation.
It was noted that the Memorandum of Understanding on transport and logistics cooperation, signed in August of last year in the city of Turkmenbashi between the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Railway Transport of Turkmenistan, and the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan, will make a significant contribution to the further expansion of cooperation.
At the conclusion of the four-party meeting, a protocol was signed covering areas such as digitalisation within the Middle Corridor, the development of freight transportation, and corridor diagnostics.
