Training Conducted for Customs Officials of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan

On 26 January, within the framework of the World Customs Organization’s Central Asia and Caucasus Security Project (CCASP), a training course on the topic “Prevention of the Illegal Cross-Border Movement of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)” commenced its work.

The training is being held at the WCO European Regional Office for Capacity Building in Baku and brings together representatives of the customs services of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.

Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee, Major General of the Customs Service Gulughlan Muradli, and Director of the WCO European Regional Office for Capacity Building Antonio Lo Parco emphasized that preventing the illegal cross-border movement of small arms and light weapons, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles, is one of the most pressing and strategically important issues for customs authorities.

It was also noted that the training is beneficial in enhancing the knowledge and skills of customs officers, sharing best practices, and strengthening cooperation in this field.

Within the framework of the training, WCO experts Adam Vas and Vesna Vracar will deliver presentations covering the unique characteristics and risks posed by small arms and light weapons, issues related to documentation and licensing, UAV technology and electronic warfare, international legal frameworks, and other related topics.

The training will continue until 29 January.
