Representative of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan Participates in International Meeting in Turkmenistan
Our country engages in effective cooperation with the relevant bodies of the United Nations, including the Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in promoting thematic issues related to peace and security, particularly in the fight against terrorism, organized crime, drug trafficking, and other related areas.
On 11–13 September, the next plenary meeting of the UNODC Central Asia and South Caucasus Network (CASC) took place in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. The plenary sessions of the CASC Network serve as an important platform for establishing channels of interaction among the competent authorities of member states, aimed at addressing matters of mutual legal assistance and extradition within the framework of combating regional crime in Central Asia and the South Caucasus. The primary objective of the meeting was to disseminate the positive experiences of member states, deliberate upon measures to enhance cooperation, address persisting challenges, and review activities carried out under the Network’s assistance framework, along with statistical indicators of such work.
At the relevant session, Fuad Huseynov, Prosecutor of the Extradition and Legal Assistance Division of the Department of International Legal Cooperation of the Prosecutor General’s Office, delivered a statement. He outlined the new methods and approaches applied by the Prosecutor General’s Office in matters of legal assistance and extradition in criminal cases, highlighted the amendments introduced to the country’s criminal procedural legislation in connection with digitalization, and emphasized the contribution of the “Electronic Prosecution” Information System to increasing efficiency in this field. In addition, the meeting featured an exchange of experience on combating organized crime, including human trafficking, illicit drug trafficking, and cybercrime, with a discussion of the best practices of central authorities from different countries in the areas of extradition and legal assistance.
