Azerbaijan’s National Culinary Traditions Presented at an International Event
Within the framework of the III United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) held in Turkmenistan, “Azerbaijan National Days” featured a presentation of Azerbaijan’s national culinary heritage, organized by the State Tourism Agency and its subordinate National Culinary Center.
At the culinary section of the exhibition area, held in the Avaza National Tourism Zone, visitors were introduced to traditional dishes and desserts of Azerbaijan, as well as the country’s broader culinary traditions.
Visitors received detailed explanations about the conceptual design of the stand, which highlighted elements of Azerbaijan’s national gastronomy included in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List, and emphasized cultural parallels with Turkmenistan. The display also incorporated sustainability elements, and particular attention was drawn to dishes such as qutab/gutab and tandir/tandoor/clay oven bread, which reflect culinary practices similar to those of the Turkmen people, showcasing commonalities in baking traditions and gastronomic culture.
