Baku and Turkmenbashi ports have expanded cooperation to increase regional transportation

A meeting has been held at the Baku International Sea Trade Port between Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC (ADY), a company of AZCON Holding, and Nokerguly Ataguliev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.

The Turkmen delegation has been provided with extensive information about the Port of Baku, including the work that has been carried out there following its integration into ADY, as well as the port’s role in multimodal transportation along the Middle Corridor.

It has been noted that, last year, a record volume of cargo-more than 100,000 TEU containers-has been handled at the port, which has become possible as a result of Azerbaijan’s major investments in transport infrastructure.

During the bilateral discussions, an exchange of views has taken place on the improvement of infrastructure through dredging operations at the Turkmenbashi International Seaport and on increasing cargo transportation through the port.
The sides have noted the importance of digital data exchange in order to ensure coordinated activity between the railways and international seaports of the two countries.

At the same time, within the framework of the development of the Middle Corridor and the Eurasian Transport Route, the sides have emphasized the expansion of cooperation in multimodal transportation and the measures that can be taken to increase cargo flows in the East-West-East direction.
