Ambassador: The current level of relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan is encouraging
The fraternal and strategic partnership between our countries has demonstrated significant progress and, in 2025, was further strengthened through the political will of the two heads of state, expanding on the principles of mutual trust and friendship. The current level of relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan is encouraging. In recent years, high-level reciprocal visits, meetings, and diplomatic contacts have intensified bilateral dialogue and laid a solid foundation for expanding cooperation across all areas.
These remarks were made by Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Gismat Gozalov, in a statement to AZERTAC.
Conveying his congratulations on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the international recognition of Turkmenistan’s Permanent Neutrality, the Ambassador emphasized that Azerbaijan holds deep respect for Turkmenistan’s UN-recognized policy of Permanent Neutrality and has acted as a co-sponsor of the relevant resolutions adopted between 1995 and 2025.
The diplomat highly praised the role of the National Leader of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, in Azerbaijan’s acceptance as a full-fledged member of the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asian Countries, noting that this historic event, which took place in Tashkent in 2025, will expand de facto boundaries and enhance regional cooperation.
Emphasizing that the construction of a mosque in the city of Fuzuli at the initiative of the National Leader of Turkmenistan is perceived by local residents as “a symbol of special respect for shared values,” he added: “The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation for Assistance to Children in Need has opened a new chapter in humanitarian cooperation between our countries.”
